Under a new partnership and distribution agreement, Microlution (Chicago, Illinois) will offer CAD/CAM software and post processors from Cimatron Technologies (Novi, Michigan) to users of its line of CNC micromachining centers. The organizations say the combined solution will enable customers to improve quality and efficiency in the machining of small, precision parts. “Even the best machine cannot perform any better than the program with which you run it,” says Andy Phillip, president of Microlution.

Cimatron’s Micro-Milling solution is designed for milling applications involving cutting tools as small as 1 micron and tolerances as tight as 0.0001 mm. Likewise, Microlution’s line of small-scale machine tools is engineered to address the specific requirements of micro/meso-scale manufacturing and the shortcomings of traditional machine tools currently used for such processes. According to both organizations, the use of special-purpose machines and software is key to improving efficiency in small-part applications.
