The National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) has appointed David (Dave) Tilstone as president. Mr. Tilstone’s 35 years of metalworking experience include leadership positions with Kennametal and Extrude Hone, where he worked to develop and implement growth strategies and improve operating results. Additionally, he has held board positions with AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology, the American Heart Association and the University of Pittsburgh.
In other association news, NTMA has created and instituted its Manufacturing Technology Award program to recognize and honor members that have implemented a manufacturing business or technology solution that has delivered a significant, positive impact. Winners for 2010 are Tampa, Florida-based Southern Manufacturing Technologies and Chicopee, Massachusetts-based Hoppe Tool. The former company was recognized for its use of custom waterjet technology to deburr hard-to-reach geometries in a family of aerospace components, while the latter received an award for innovative implementation of on-machine, in-cycle inspection via PC-DMIS software from Hexagon Metrology.
