Delcam (Birmingham, UK) has converted its Professional Services Group into an independent subsidiary, Delcam Professional Services Ltd. (DPS). The company says the move is the first stage in a significant expansion of its process development activities. The new subsidiary also includes the company’s former Tooling Services Division, which is now known as the Delcam Advanced Manufacturing Facility.

DPS’ primary focus remains helping primarily aerospace and power generation industry clients improve productivity and accuracy while shortening lead times. Services range from providing extra design and programming resources to overloaded customer staff to developing completely new, turnkey processes for the production of novel designs, including the manufacture of prototypes or initial production runs.

To help customers meet their goals, DPS will extensively employ adaptive machining, a combination of Delcam’s machining and inspection software used for consistent, accurate production of complex components. In fact, the company has already used this technology to support joint efforts by GKN Aerospace and Ultra Electronics to develop a wing ice protection system for Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner.
The adaptive technology process for the ice protection system was developed at DPS and carried out at the Advanced Manufacturing Facility, which produced demonstration parts and the initial production samples. Following the successful completion of those initial samples, the process has moved to full-scale production at GKN’s Luton site. Additionally, GKN has since purchased Delcam’s PowerMill CAM system and the on-machine verification version of its PowerInspect inspection software.
