Carl Zeiss IMT (Maple Grove, Minnesota) says its recently opened West Coast Technical Center demonstrates its commitment to supporting local high-tech industry by providing customers easy access to its technology. Located in a modern technology park in Irvine, California, the new center focuses on application support, contract inspection services, software training and demonstration of Zeiss equipment.

“Providing contract inspection services is an exciting part of what we are building here,” says Drew Shemenski, software and applications manager. “We have the capability to support the inspection needs of a variety of users—from micro-molders through traditional CNC job shops, as well as specialists such as gear and turbine manufacturers.”

The company also recently reported delivery of its 2,000th Contura G2 CMM to Schmiede Corporation, a contract manufacturer in Tullahoma, Tennessee that serves the power generation, automotive, aerospace, heavy truck, off-road equipment and specialty pump industries. The bridge-type CMM is available in three different configurations, each of which use the company’s VAST technology and either articulated or active scanning. Schmiede will use the machine to support contracts within its aerospace and nuclear power generation divisions.
