Metris has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Manasssas, Virginia, centralizing production of all its large-volume metrology products. The new facility merges two former offices that originally served as headquarters to ArcSecond and MetricVision, respectively, before Metris acquired both firms in recent years. The 30,000-square-foot facility houses 60 employees and is located in Prince William Technology Park on Innovation Drive.

“Centralizing all large-volume metrology manufacturing resources at a single location offers many advantages,” says Jeff Walker, vice president of operations at the Manassas facility. “It will enable Metris to streamline large-volume product operations and further increase the development pace of new product innovations.”

At the grand opening ceremony earlier this month, Metris employees conducted facility tours and product demonstrations to illustrate how products ultimately roll off the production line. Reliable interaction between ultra-precise optics, mechanics and electronics is achieved via “Swiss-precision” assembly performed by specialists in various dedicated assembly rooms, the company says. The new metrology equipment is then tested and calibrated in temperature-change laboratories that are equipped with humidity control.
