Machine tool builder Mazak (Florence, Kentucky) says the establishment of its new World Research & Development center could reduce design-to-market time by three to five months for new products and units, including assembly, testing and evaluation.

The center occupies 73,000 square feet of a new 167,000-square-foot facility in Oguchi, Japan. Prior to its founding, prototyping was completed at the manufacturing plant where each product was produced.

To reduce the facility’s contribution to climate change, more than 79,000 square feet of the roof is dedicated to growing moss and other plants.
