Jim King has taken the reins as president and chief operating officer of Okuma America Corporation (Charlotte, North Carolina). Former president and COO Larry Schwartz has been named chief strategy officer. In that position, Mr. Schwartz will remain a vital part of the leadership team and provide strategic support while Mr. King takes responsibility for day-to-day operations, the company says.

Mr. King joined Okuma in January 2010 as senior vice president of sales after 30 years of working in industrial markets, automation and control software. “Jim rapidly came up-to-speed in understanding the company and its employees, our mission, vision and commitment to our customers, distributors and partners,” Mr. Schwartz says. “He has forged strong and lasting relationships within the industry and has earned the respect required to guide our company into the future.”

Mr. King says that under Mr. Schwartz’s tenure, the company has become a leader in the machine tool and CNC control world. “His vision of an open-architecture machine tool control became reality, and his desire to serve as a solution provider to manufacturers established the Partners in THINC program,” Mr. King says. “I welcome his continued insight and support.”
