Machine tool supplier Hyundai WIA (Carlstadt, New Jersey) will donate a VMC and a turning center for use in a training program intended to address the shortage of skilled machinists in the Northeast region. The training program is a joint venture between solenoid, valve and LVDT maker G.W. Lisk Co. and Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC), with the former providing hands-on training and equipment and the latter offering administration, enrollment and academic classes. Since its launch in September 2011, the program has graduated 25 new CNC machining professionals, all of whom now work at either Lisk or other area manufacturers.

Machine tool distributor Excel Machine Technologies communicated the value of Lisk’s program to Hyundai WIA, which announced it would supply the machines at its Northeast Technology Expo on April 9. For more detailed information on the training program, visit short.mmsonline.com/lisktrain.
