CAM software developer Delcam has signed a non-legally binding memorandum of understanding to purchase a minority holding in German additive manufacturing software developer Marcam Engineering GmbH.

Marcam’s AutoFab and VisCAM software is used to prepare CAD/CAM data for additive manufacturing. Capabilities include verification and repair, design of lightweight structures, support generation, part placement, slicing and hatching. Following the anticipated completion of Delcam’s investment, the two companies say they will actively work together to develop and promote joint solutions for the additive manufacturing market.

“The use of additive manufacturing is expanding rapidly as the processes re moving from the production of prototypes into the manufacture of functional parts,” says Marcus Joppe, Marcam’s managing director. “The investment and cooperation with Delcam will help us take advantage of this opportunity to expand our business both within Germany and, especially, on an international level.”
