Custom-Built Engine Helps to Raise Over $100K for Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes
Sunnen’s Engine Charity Sweepstakes has broken their fundraising record by offering a Sonny Automotive Racing custom-built engine as the prize for its 30th annual sweepstakes.
A 727-cubic-inch, custom-built engine from Sonny’s Automotive Racing helped Sunnen’s Engine Charity Sweepstakes to raise over $100,000 in funding. As the prize in the annual sweepstakes, the custom engine enabled Sunnen to nearly double its previous fundraising efforts. The previous record of $59,000 was reached in 2015.
Sonny’s Automotive Racing in Lynchburg, Virginia, built the high-performance engine, valued at more than $66,000. The engine featured Sonny’s fully in-house ported hemispherical cylinder heads, Sonny’s/Brodix 5.000 B.S. block, a Bryant billet crank, Carrillo steel billet rods and more.
This year was the 30th anniversary of the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes, held at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show. All proceeds went to Victory Junction, a camp for children living with serious medical conditions that was founded by NASCAR’s Petty family. The winning ticket was held by Mark Wolfe of Arlington, Washington.
