The second annual Laser Additive Manufacturing (LAM) workshop will demonstrate how the technology has matured and encourage widespread industrial implementation. Sponsored by the Laser Institute of America (LIA), the event is scheduled for May 11-12 in Houston, Texas. Presentations from industry experts will focus on topics including laser cladding techniques, research and development and the future of LAM.
The low heat and precision characteristic of lasers make the technology promising for improving efficiency in additive manufacturing, the organization says. “We’d like to see this conference as a risk mitigator,” says Paul Denney, general chair of the LAM workshop and director of the laser applications lab at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology. “The idea is to get people out there to talk about how the technology has been implemented. We’ll look at cross-fertilization from industry to industry and application to application, so people who may want to get into this area feel more comfortable.”
