Leaders-In background

A recently released report titled “Global Light Vehicle and Powertrain Forecast” predicts that China will remain the primary driver of global production growth over the next four years, but the United States will continue as the No. 2 vehicle producer in the world. The report from WardsAuto and AutomotiveCompass calls for auto makers to consolidate the number of platforms underpinning their vehicles and to increase the percentage of vehicles with smaller engines.

The forecast projects growth in all global regions through 2018, with the total vehicle output increasing by 23 percent over the next six years. China and the Asian Pacific region will be especially dominant. Production will continue to increase in the United States, while it will decline in Japan, the third-highest producing country. India is expected to surpass South Korea and Germany to rank fourth among vehicle-producing countries.
