America Makes has named the awardees of the recent Maturation of Additive Geometric Management Approaches for High Mach Applications (MAGMA) project call. Subject to the finalization of all contractual details and requirements, America Makes has selected a team led by Boeing as the recipient of the MAGMA funding. The team also includes RPM Innovations Inc.

The topic for MAGMA was Production of Acceptable Relevant Product Geometries, and it was announced October 19, 2021. MAGMA is a part of the statement of work for Hypersonics Enabling Additive Manufacturing, which is being led by America Makes.

More information about the project can be found here.

The MAGMA project totals $500,000 in funding from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Materials and Manufacturing Directorate, Manufacturing and Industrial Base Technology Division, to further advance the maturation of additive manufacturing technologies for high Mach applications.

“We are so pleased by the support of our membership to advance the supply chains understanding of AM technologies for a variety of high Mach applications,” says Brandon D. Ribic, Ph.D., America Makes technology director. “These efforts will serve to benefit the manufacturing of a wide variety of products which feature complex geometric features. It is anticipated important lessons learned from these efforts will help to improve yield of complex structures incorporating AM components.”

America Makes members and government stakeholders are encouraged to submit topic(s) for future project calls. America Makes will announce future projects as funding becomes available.
