AMB Exceeds Expectations
With a record number of exhibitors, a significant increase in attendance and more floor space than ever before, AMB 2008 was larger than any previous iteration of the German metalworking trade show. The biennial event was hosted for the first time in Stuttgart, Germany at the new Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre from September 9 to 13. More than 85,000 visitors—a 70-percent increase over the 2006 show—viewed innovations and developments from 1,306 exhibitors occupying 105,200 square meters of floor space, an area twice as large as the show’s previous location.

More than 85,000 visitors—a 70-percent increase over the 2006 show—viewed innovations and developments from 1,306 exhibitors occupying 105,200 square meters of floor space, an area twice as large as the show’s previous location. Exhibitors from abroad comprised 21 percent of the total and hailed from 27 different countries. Metal-cutting equipment and precision tools were supplemented by robots; workpiece- and tool-handling techniques; computer systems and peripherals; and components, modules and accessories.
“The quality and number of visitors were excellent,” says Carl Martin Welcker, CEO of the Association of German Machine Tool Manufacturers (VDW). “It has shown that the concentration of trade fairs is progressing and the good trade fairs are becoming more high-profile.” AMB will return to Stuttgart from September 21 to 25, 2010.
