The specialty FSB 85 face driver, which weighs more than 20,000 pounds and measures 40 inches in diameter and 10 inches long, will be used to machine bar stock into billets for aerospace and defense applications.
Neidlein face drivers grip and turn a workpiece from its end, allowing access to the full length of the part. This eliminates the need to flip the workpieces and allows users to machine the entire part in a single setup. In addition to fast setup and changeovers, the mechanical face drivers provide increased flexibility to reduce cycle times and allow large interrupted and heavy cuts, the company says. Other benefits are said to include improved part quality, reduced cost and less maintenance.
