Leaders-In background

To honor the memory of Earl E. Walker, the recently deceased CEO of Carr Lane Manufacturing (St. Louis, Missouri), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Education Foundation board of directors voted to move $835,000 to the Myrtle and Earl Walker Endowed Scholarship Fund. Now endowed at $2 million, the fund will pay out $100,000 per year in scholarships.

Mr. Walker, who had performed philanthropic work with numerous schools and charity, worked full time until a week before passing away on August 26 at age 91. He founded Carr Lane in 1952 with five employees and his wife, Myrtle, at his side. Today, the multi-million-dollar operation is an international provider of component parts for jigs and fixtures used in all areas of manufacturing, especially the aerospace and automotive industries.

The board also officially named the SME Education Foundation Founder’s Society the Myrtle and Earl Walker Founder’s Society. This organization honors and recognizes the Foundation’s most generous supporters.
