Tsugami America says the idea of its Process Development Center fitted with various machine tool models and a metrology lab is to assist current and potential customers with developing effective manufacturing processes.

Tsugami America, the exclusive North American importer of Tsugami machine tools, introduces the launch of its new Process Development Center (PDC) featured at its corporate headquarters in Windsor, Connecticut. The company’s PDC is a dedicated facility that offers technical and industry expertise to help manufacturers take a machining project from concept to full implementation. Its PDC team can provide customers with test cut samples and quality verification while offering limited contract machining services as well.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Process Development Center at Tsugami America,” says Michael Mugno, president of Tsugami America. “This state-of-the-art facility represents our commitment to innovation and customer support. We look forward to partnering with our customers to drive their success and advance the manufacturing industry.”

The facility is equipped with dedicated Swiss-type, multifunction and LaserSwiss machines, and the PDC’s application engineers are dedicated to the verification and performance of test cut samples to help ensure part manufacturability, the company says. Because full inspection of dimensions and features is critical to creating accurate test cut samples, the PDC metrology lab is equipped with a Hexagon Bridge CMM, Fowler Sylvanic F60 vision system and more to provide quality inspection for all test cuts completed.

Learn more about the PDC as well as the nine machine tools on display by visiting its South Building booth. This includes two new machine models. One is the SS20MH-III-5AX, a multifunction sliding headstock lathe with a B-axis tool spindle. This is shown paired with an integrated solution cart by Tsugami America Automation including a FANUC CRX-5iA robot with Schunck universal gripper for part loading and unloading, a Pro Ultrasonics cleaning tank for part sanitization, MiJet drying system for part blow off and a Trumpf TruMark 6030 laser for part identification.

The other is the VA3S, the latest high-speed vertical machining center that has been added to its universal machine portfolio. The VA3S offers rapid 1.1-second tool-to-tool changes thanks to a 21-position carousel with a servo drive tool magazine. These fast tool-change times, along with the 20,000 rpm spindle, make this platform well suited for rapid facing, drilling and tapping operations.
