Leaders-In background

Machine shops supporting race teams are essentially job shops. They don’t know what new part team engineers will design and need them to machine in short order and often in small batches. As a result, they consider the same types of advanced machining equipment, workholding devices, CAD/CAM software and automated processes to complete these parts as fast as possible.

Some of these challenges will be discussed in a panel discussion Modern Machine Shop’s Executive Editor Derek Korn is moderating featuring Tony Stewart, the three-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion and co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR). The 90-minute event is titled “The Winning Advantage: Lessons from the Stewart-Haas Racing CNC Shop,” and will feature a panel discussion, a Q&A session and an autograph session with Tony.

In addition to Tony, the panel includes Brad Harris, director of SHR CNC operations, and Ray Salazar, ExxonMobil lubrication engineer. The discussion will highlight the challenges of running a race team machine shop and how SHR is applying new machining technology and best practices to meet those challenges. It will also highlight the advantages of establishing close relationships with suppliers, such as the one between ExxonMobil and Haas Automation, to establish effective machining processes and improve equipment performance.

The event is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. Although registration to attend this panel is closed, you can view it via live stream below, in ExxonMobil’s booth (339292) or at mobil.com.
