View MoreA "done-in-one" manufacturing cell for large part production consisting of an Orbitec 20 machine, an Integrex multitasking machine and a Palletech automation system is now available from Mazak.
The Orbitec 20 generates turned features on large valves and odd-shaped parts. The machine’s headstock moves only the cutting tools to effectively perform multiple turning, boring, grooving, facing and threading operations while workpieces remain clamped and stationary. The internally counter-balanced headstock, with a 600-rpm, 40-hp integrated spindle motor, keeps tool tips facing either toward or away from the centerline of rotation while tools orbit around the workpieces. The machine’s X-axis stroke measures 11.02", while its U-, V-, and Z-axis strokes are 23.62", 23.62," and 48.43", respectively, providing increased accessibility. The machine turns workpieces with diameters as large as 20" within a a work envelope measuring 41.34" in diameter and 51.18" high.
Equipped with a two-pallet changer, the Orbitec 20 can be used in conjunction with the Palletech automation system. The system is available in single-, double- and triple-level pallet stocker configurations. Compatible with Mazak’s horizontal machining centers and multitasking machines, it can accommodate 16 machines, six to 240 pallets and as many as eight loading stations
Both the Orbetic 20 and Integrex machines utilize a common pallet size, so workpieces can be fixtured once on the machine’s 24.8" × 24.8" pallets, fed into the Orbetic 20 for turning operations and then transferred to the Integrex for final processing. The system’s pallets and fixtures are well-suited for economical manufacturing of single-part lots. Tombstones with multi-part fixtures are available for higher production needs.
