Sunnen Products has replaced its SV-1000, SV-400 and SV-500 vertical honing platforms with the SV-2000, SV-2400 and SV-2500 series with upgraded capabilities.

The SV-2000 offers a choice of controlled-force or controlled-rate tool feed. Controlled-rate enables automatic tool feed in increments as small as 0.1 micron (0.000010"). Controlled-force tool feed monitors force in the tool-feed system and feeds the abrasive at the highest rate possible for part conditions. The SV-2400 includes selectable constant spindle load and controlled-rate tool feed.

The range of machines features a 7.5-kW (10-hp) servo spindle and can process bores ID from 3 to 300 mm for parts such as fuel injectors, piston pumps, gun barrels, hydraulic components, engine/compressor cylinders, diesel cylinder liners and landing gear. Whole-bore, constant-crosshatch angle eliminates the flattening of the crosshatch angle at stroke-reversal points. The machines can be set up to hone only on the pull stroke or to produce custom profiled and tapered bores. The new platforms include safe-drive technology that monitors all safety devices with a separate PLC that stops or limits the speed of the drives if triggered.
