Taps, Thread Mills Designed for Titanium Alloys
Emuge offers a line of high-performance tools for threading alloyed titanium materials.
Emuge offers a line of high-performance tools for threading alloyed titanium materials. With a total of 222 available tools ranging from taps to solid carbide thread mills, the tooling program is suitable for aerospace, defense and medical applications. Tap sizes ranging to 1" are available in UNC and UNF, and from 3 × 0.5 to 24 × 3.0 in metric.
The tooling program features C-Ti and D-Ti taps with high-relief geometry (HRG) technology, which increases space between the friction surfaces for enhanced lubrication and reduced torque load in both forward and reverse directions. According to Emuge, HRG counteracts the high compressive forces produced by the elastic memory of titanium. An optimized flute angle and profile create tough, long chips that evacuate axially in one direction. Taps are made of HSS-E steel for heat and wear resistance, and a modified bottoming chamfer provides reduced torque and increased tool life.
A variety of thread mills are also available, including Threads-All Z-GF-style thread mills in eight stock sizes and Shur-Thread GFI-IKZ thread mills with internal coolant.
