View MoreBelmont Equipment and Technologies’ SY Series high-speed CNC EDM drills are a line of customizable small hole drills. One of the drills in the series is the SY-4060, featuring a maximum workpiece weight of 1,750 lbs. The X, Y and W travels are 23.6 by 15.7 by 13.5 inches with a maximum open height of 14.1 inches.
This machine, among others in the line, has the potential and capacity for automated operation. Drills in the company’s SY EDM line are equipped with an automatic tool bank, which holds 60 electrodes and 30 guides intended to maximize unattended operation. The drill keeps track of each electrode, and when an electrode is spent, the machine automatically loads the next one and continues the programmed operation. The LCD display attached to the automatic electrode changer shows the status of each electrode holder.
The SY-4060 model also has features such as automatic depth control, multi-tasking abilities, three-step control of EDM parameters, Ethernet connectivity or USB support for transferring data and conversational G and M Code programming. Just a few more attributes of these machines are the linear glass scales and the ability to interface with ancillary devices — such as rotary and tilt or just rotary tables, indexers and work piece handling systems. All these features make the SY-4060 CNC small hole EDM drill well-suited for the aerospace industry, but Belmont says many companies will likely find production applications for the SY-4060 as well.
