Self-Reversing Tapping Heads Can Extend Spindle Life

Tapmatic Corp.’s Constant Speed Tapping (CST) is said to eliminate machine reversals because the unit relies on a compact tapping head to provide tap reversal. The machine spindle runs in one direction at the programmed speed, and reversal occurs within the tapping head almost instantaneously upon machine retraction, says the company. So the HPM dictated by the programmed rpm can be achieved. Minimizing fluctuations in rpm can thus increase tap life, the company says.
By reducing the wear associated with machine reversal in high-production applications, companies can experience a reduction in spindle replacements and machining down time. The tapping units are available with a variety of shanks, capacities and tapping holding systems, with or without coolant through.
