Tri-Tech Precision Products’ model 5414-R3 programmable spindle head attachment can provide virtually any three-axis CNC milling center with true simultaneous five-axis milling, grinding and drilling capability. The spindle head attachment it suited for the mold, aerospace, specialty automotive and energy industries. It can also be used by instrument manufacturers.
The attachment includes an upgraded spindle with high-precision bearings to increase rigidity and provide quality surface finish. It includes vibration damping spindle supports, as well as the patented Inpro spindle seal that virtually eliminates potential spindle contamination, the company says.
Designed to handle complex machining operations such as full five-axis profiling, contouring, slots and holes, the attachment’s sturdy holding fixture enables an installation time of less than 30 min. The all-steel construction utilizes hardened and ground A2 tool steel in the drive block and main bevel gears and 17-4 stainless steel in the spindle and gear housing.
High speed options are achieved via a mechanical speeder or a pneumatic spindle that do not lose torque or rpm under load, the company says. High speed spindle options offer 20,000- to 50,000-rpm capabilities.
According to the company, the attachment provides access to all points within the host machine’s work envelope. It is available with a powerful postprocessor designed to work with nearly all five-axis CAM software products and five-axis CNC controls.
