Liebherr offers a larger, modular pallet handling system (PHS) designed to provide large-part manufacturers with the same handling flexibility, efficiency and cost savings of its smaller range. The company’s linear PHS 10000 handles workpieces ranging from 2,000 to 3,500 mm (118" to 137") in diameter, clamped manually or automatically to standardized machine pallets, and is capable of handling loads ranging from 10,000 to 13,000 kg (22,000 to 28,660 lbs) and greater.
The PHS enables high-capacity machining centers to be supplied with workpieces set up on pallets outside the machine. Fixtures are set up in parallel to primary machining using separate workstations. Multiple clampings increase machine running times and therefore the possible work inventory in the system. It can also provide temporary storage for buffering to accommodate varying machining times. According to the company, the system can promote machine utilization rates as high as 90 percent while also reducing personnel requirements.
To avoid having to set up tools regularly and to ensure unattended production over longer periods of time, Liebherr offers optional, autonomous tool storage and tool-handling systems capable of storing as many as 2,000 tools and supplying them to the machine. The system are available as a central magazine or as an overhead magazine. Tool management is provided by the cell control system and promotes continuous flow of information for controlling the complete system.
The cell controller is regulated by the modular Soflex PCS system. This software ensures transparent processes, optimizes capacity, regulates workpiece transport, manages temporary storage, tools and fixtures, and provides NC machining data.
The PHS is available in four sizes for transport loads ranging from 500 to 13,000 kg. Modular components include the lift module, shelf module, safety equipment, pallet setup module and optional front access.
