Jeol USA says its JAM-5200EBM is an electron beam melting (EBM) powder bed fusion (PBF) machine which can significantly improve productivity, quality and reliability to produce stronger and lighter parts for a variety of applications.
The company says the printer enables customers to maximize operational equipment efficiency by reducing downtime with a long-life cathode of over 1,500 hours. It is said to eliminate smoke events and trapped gasses with a clean, helium-free environment and “e-shield.” It is also designed to deliver rapid resolutions thanks to Jeol USA’s service and after-sales support network of over 180 field service engineers. It can also enable 24/7 production via remote monitoring of conditions and manufacturing status, the company says.
In addition, the printer is designed to optimize material performance and minimize defects. It is said to minimize powder scattering and smoke-related defects with a preheat scan strategy. The company says it can achieve high productivity, reproducibility and accuracy due to its automatic correction of focus and spot shape of the electron beam based on the company’s electron beam lithography systems. Further, it is said to process high-temperature alloys with 1,100°C build temperature capability, and controls microstructure and stresses with between layer-to-layer thermal management.
The printer is said to achieve a maximum manufacturing capacity of 250 mm × 400mm with initial launch materials of Ti6Al4V, Ni718 and pure copper
EBM technology is said to make it possible to reduce fuel consumption and increase output, reduce the cost, improve efficiency and shorten development time, integration of multiple parts and weight reduction.
