Applying the tangentially clamped design of the larger Tangmill tool to the smaller Minitang inserts, Iscar Metals, Inc. has released new Minitang inserts with four helical 0.315" cutting edges. Because of the small size of the T490 LNMX 0804 PN-R inserts and their tangential orientation in the pocket, they have a larger core-diameter design than regular inserts with radial orientation.
According to the company, the inserts can be used for machining 90-degree shoulders at high feed rates with no mismatch, and their helical cutting edges and positive rake angles ensure soft, clean cuts. Also useful for side-plunging applications, the inserts are available in diameters ranging from 0.615" to 1.50" in either coarse or fine-pitch configurations.
