LMT offers NanomoldRed, a high-performance insert coating for mold and die applications. According to the company, the coating provides a hard shell and soft core to improve wear resistance and provide toughness. The multi-layered coating is suitable for use with both soft and hard metals ranging to more than 54 HRc.
The coating structure consists of four different layers to enhance adhesion while keeping heat away from the core. The bonding layer provides a soft transition from the carbide substrate to the first core layer, which offers thermal insulation and decreases stress for impact strength. The second core layer provides abrasion resistance to ensure process reliability for both dry machining and MQL applications. Finally, the top colored layer resists built-up edge and offers quality surface finishes while easing wear detection.
