The TiN coated, double-sided, micrograin carbide insert is said to last longer than brazed carbide inserts or slivers of carbide. The tool is designed so the insert can be removed, rotated or replaced while the tool remains locked in the turret, saving setup time re-zeroing the machine.
The interaction between insert and insert pocket provides stability during the cut to reduce chatter and extend insert life, the company says. Nine sizes of broaching tools are available, and inserts range from 0.127" (for a 1/8" keyway) to a 0.502" (for a ½" keyway).
