The adjustable speed control of up to 200,000 rpm is one of several characteristics that make spindles from The Precise Corp. suitable for manufacturing critical medical and optical products.
In addition to machining medical components, the spindles have contributed to the development of heart valves, stents, surgical needles, optics grinding, dental braces, intraocular lenses and penicillin. In the latter application, the spindle functions as centrifuge to filter chemical compounds. Moreover, the Type SC 50104 has been used to manufacture prosthetic joints. This particular spindle can achieve speeds as high as 40,000 rpm; it maintains runout of less than 2 microns.
