The Balinit Helica AlCrN coating is the second of the G6 family of drill coatings from Balzers, Inc. An alternative to titanium-based coatings, it is said to offer excellent hot hardness, wear resistance and chip evacuation for common steels and cast iron. Drills with this coating can be operated dry or with minimum quality lubrication drilling operations.
High wear resistance helps protect the flute margin of the drill, while keeping adhesion in the flute low. The multi-layer PVD coating imparts high shear strength to allow even wear. A smooth coating surface enhances chip flow during drilling.
