Vero Software offers its Visi 21 CAD/CAM software for die-mold applications, featuring adaptive roughing, three-axis machining and EDM functionality.
The software’s “adaptive roughing” strategy uses a combination of constant Z-roughing, adaptive roughing, core roughing, and rest roughing combined with intelligent ramp, helical and planar entry methods. Combined with smooth corner radii and smooth transitions between passes, the roughing strategy enables the tool to maintain maximum feed rate and prevents the cutter from dwelling in corners. For subsequent roughing operations, the software will remember where remaining stock is left on the component, and
machine only those areas.
The “Visi Machining 3D” function creates tool paths on complex 3D parts. Dedicated high-speed milling techniques and built-in smoothing algorithms create efficient NC code. Intelligent tool paths can reduce cycle times, improve productivity and promote component quality, the company says. The benefits for three-axis machining include high-speed optimized tool paths, customizable postprocessors, full tool and holder gouge protection, full kinematic simulation, and more.
Fully feature based, the software’s “PEPS-wire” module provides automatic feature recognition of wire features—including tapered, variable taper and four-axis features—directly from solid geometry. Features are machined, creating reliable wire EDM tool paths and NC code for any machine tool, Vero says. The company adds that advantages of the module include a comprehensive machine and postprocessor database; reverse cutting on roughing, finishing and tag-removal passes; the ability to more easily apply roughing and finishing cuts to multiple punches or dies; and other productivity features.
“Visi Electrode” is an automated module for the creation and management of electrodes and holders for the manufacture of detailed and hard-to-machine features on mold and press tools. Comprehensive holder design, simulation and collision checking ensure that the electrode will operate correctly. The module offers electrode collision checking; linear and tangential surface extension; dynamic surface extraction; and vertical, side and inclined electrode animation.
