CAD Software Supports Manufacturing-Oriented Design
The software is designed to be a single platform for solving design and manufacturing challenges.
Geomagic Freeform 2017 from 3D Systems is intended to provide a single engineering platform for designing and manufacturing parts.
The software enables users to create and manage four different types of 3D part geometries, offering flexibility and design control. This single design environment delivers prismatic solid parts, lattice structures, voxel-based embossed textures, virtual sculpting and other features, which the company says results in precision-engineered designs with a balance of visual aesthetics, dimensional precision and part manufacturability.
Among the features in the 2017 release are tools and enhancements which provide process optimizations to production workflows, according to the company. Users can generate 3D components like text labels or sleeves from an existing surface (with offset) based on a profile; visualize cross-sectional slices of objects and extract images or contours (single or stacked); and export orthographic or turntable based image sets, with options for background transparency, cropping, and numerous other properties aimed at eliminating downstream editing in both manual and automated documentation workflows.
In addition to the new features, the software release is designed to enhance the user experience and further increase workflow efficiency, with full 3D motion control and touch feedback for on-screen objects.
Geomagic Freeform 2017 is available for new customers and all customers currently on software maintenance contracts.
