Keeping the bar stock centered as it rotates is imperative when carrying out the precise machining when producing orthopedic screws, dental implants and defibrillator components. With this requirement in mind, LNS America, Inc. has developed the Express automatic bar feed series for Swiss-Type and fixed headstock lathes.
The machine facilitates partial change-overs in as little as 2 minutes, and complete changeovers in 8 minutes, a capability that is made possible by automatic adjustments that are inherent to the machine. Operators simply enter logical values by means of the control keypad, says the company.
To enable lathes to perform at high speeds without sacrificing accuracy, the bar feeder incorporates a hydrostatic bearing design to support the barstock. The machine is equipped with another feature—Intelligent Synchronization—which monitors sliding headstock and bar feeding movements to anticipate headstock motion and synchronize the movements of the pusher and lathe headstock. A 3S synchronization option is also offered.
