Two Machines, One Worktable
Fidia’s Y2K solution combines two of the company’s K-range machining centers, which face each other and share the same worktable to provide efficient modularity. According to the company, the simultaneous action of two milling heads controlled by two synchronized CNCs enables production of drawing dies for sheet metal, aeronautical components, models and prototypes in nearly half the time. Additionally, the company says its flexible software, as well as the fact that the two controls allow the use of independent milling programs for each machine’s work area, makes the solution useful for machining dies, large-dimensioned single components or separate pieces.

With one multi-purpose tool, Magafor says it can increase production, cost savings and quality. The Multi-V multi-function carbide tool is capable of performing eight separate operations—centering/spotting, V-grooving, engraving, counter sinking, interpolation drilling, chamfering and longitudinal chamfers. The multi-function tool can meet diameter needs ranging from 0.

To meet the evolving demands of high speed machining, Davenport Machine’s enhanced Davenport HP focuses on usability and maintenance. For easier interaction, the Man Machine Interface (MMI) is mounted on a waist-high pendant system that allows the operator to use the interface at the front, end or back of the machine. The sound enclosure has more windows, which increase visibility while the machine is running.

Incorporating a flexible manufacturing system, the Mycenter-HX400iF HMC from Kitamura Machinery features a 12-station flexible pallet container (FPC) system. According to the company, the center’s rigid construction; precision; intuitive controls; ability to move easily between difficult materials; and its ability for high speed production make it suited for lights-out production. The company’s multi-pallet systems enable manufacturers to incorporate an unmanned machining development process for a multitasking machine environment that optimizes up-time.

Enshu’s JE60G high speed, 400-mm HMC features 23. 6" (600-mm) travels and a Fanuc 32iM advanced CNC. The standard, dual-contact 40-taper spindle achieves speeds of 15,000 rpm in 1.
Read MoreInserts For Aggressive Metalcutting
High-performance CNC-pressed Toroid inserts from Dapra are designed for aggressive metalcutting and long tool life. These thicker inserts offer enhanced heat absorption capabilities and feature a stronger cutting edge for heavier chip loads and greater shock absorption. Additionally, positive top rake results in reduced cutting forces and lower torque.
Read MoreVariable Rake End Mills
SGS Tool Company’s Z-Carb-AP variable rake end mill offers three stages of chatter suppression resulting in a quiet, stable milling operation. In stage one, unequal flute spacing disrupts the rhythmic pattern created by the cutting edge of common end mills. This suppresses the development of damaging harmonics.
Read MoreVMC For Precise Mold, Die Work
The SMS SMV-40 series of VMCs from GBI Cincinnati is said to be ideal for ultra-precise mold and die work as well as mixed-volume, short-run operations. It can also be used for dedicated high-volume applications. With X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 1,000, 520 and 505 mm, respectively, the VMC combines high-performance milling and large machining capacity within a footprint of 2,800 × 2,185 × 3,000 mm.
