SolidWorks’ Education Edition 2008-2009 features all of the capabilities of SolidWorks 2008 Office Premium as well as analysis software, curriculum and more.
Designed for students, the software features an intuitive user interface, the company says. A streamlined workflow anticipates which tools students will need in the context of a specific task they are undertaking and presents the tools for use. The interface increases window real estate, reduces mouse travel, provides customization options and offers task-based command selection.
This edition features CosmosFloXpress, a fluid dynamics application that calculates how fluid flows though a part model. Using this, students can find and fix problem areas in their designs.
In addition to the user interface and analysis software and curriculum, SolidWorks Education edition incorporates more than 250 user-requested enhancements including features built on SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology (SWIFT).
SWIFT Instant3D, one of several features built into the SWIFT framework, allows users to create and modify 3D model features by manipulating drag handles directly on the model. Users don’t need to deal with esoteric commands, dialog boxes and extensive data input. Live cross-sections enable users to make edits by dragging edges while looking at a slice of the model.
SWIFT DimXpert automatically sets geometric dimensions and tolerances on parts. DFMXpress promotes design for manufacturability by automatically flagging elements that are difficult or expensive to machine.
