TMA Elects Chairman of the Board
Jim Carr’s family business has been a member of the association for over 40 years.

The Technology and Manufacturing Association (TMA) has elected Jim Carr to Chairman of the Board, replacing outgoing Chairman Fernando Ortiz Jr. Mr. Carr is president and owner of Carr Machine & Tool Inc. (Elk Grove Village, Illinois), and co-host of the Making Chips podcast. He was sworn in at the TMA’s 90th annual meeting at its Schaumburg, Illinois, headquarters in March.
“I am truly excited to work with a newly assembled dynamic and diverse board of directors this year,” Mr. Carr says, “My experience…has taught me that diversity of thought creates the best-rounded ideas,” adding that “through respect and acceptance we can translate those opinions into powerful decisions that will ultimately enrich our association, our businesses and our personal lives.”
Mr. Carr is a 25‐year veteran of the manufacturing industry and has worked in all roles in his family’s CNC machine business. In 2015, he and friend Jason Zenger launched the Making Chips podcast targeted at manufacturing leaders. The show has generated more than 50,000 downloads. Mr. Carr previously served as vice chairman as well as treasurer of the TMA board.
