View MoreTitans of CNC: Academy has opened an advanced CNC machine shop inside San Quentin Prison in California for the training of inmates there. The effort has been led by Titan Gilroy, creator of the reality TV show “Titan,” and the associated educational platform, Titans of CNC: Academy.
Modern Machine Shop Editor-in-Chief Peter Zelinski reported in September 2016 that the show had received permission to rebuild the prison’s old machine shop under the “Titans of CNC: Academy” banner. In a November 2015 Facebook post, Mr. Gilroy wrote that he designed the curriculum for the prison machining program himself, and that he would personally help prepare inmates for future employment. His instruction of inmates will be a recurring part of the show, according to Mr. Zelinski.
On the first day of operation, the inmates made their first solid models by following one of the “Titan Tutorials,” which consist of step-by-step instructional videos and other materials on the Titans of CNC : Academy” website. The site (academy.titansofcnc.com) aims to provide a free CAD/CAM and CNC manufacturing educational program, with thousands of projects, video tutorials and TV episodes available. Titans of CNC also plans to present live, in-person workshops for educators and shop owners at its production facility in Northern California.
