Leaders-In background

At the Trends in Advanced Machining, Manufacturing and Materials (TRAM) conference during IMTS 2014, Okuma and Boeing will partner to present new implementations of the STEP-NC ISO standard. At 11:00 a.m. each day of IMTS in Okuma’s Booth S-8500, David Odendahl, associate technical fellow at Boeing, will give a short presentation discussing the optimization of programming with STEP-NC.

Each presentation will include titanium cutting demonstrations of Boeing’s original process followed by two optimized processes. The optimized implementations act as a universal CAM translator, enabling users to leverage multiple tooling suppliers using a variety of CAM packages that provide optimized cutting paths for reduced cycle times and increased tool life. These paths can be incorporated into a single STEP-NC file that retains process knowledge in addition to G-code axis motion.

On September 10 at 2:20 p.m., Jim Kosmala, vice president of technology at Okuma America Corp. will present along with Mr. Odendahl.
