CIMData (Ann Arbor, Michigan), a global PLM consulting and research firm, estimates that the worldwide NC software and related services market grew by 14.4 percent in 2011.

The estimate is based on growth in end-user payments from $1.333 billion in 2010 to $1.525 billion in 2011. According to the company, the market growth rate reflects dramatically higher machine tool sales amid the recovery from the global economic downturn, noting that worldwide machine tool shipments increased by 35 percent from 2010 to 2011. The company predicts that growth in manufacturing will continue through 2012 and that end-user payments for NC software will increase by 12.4 percent to $1.714 billion.
