View MoreCNC Software, developer of Mastercam CAD/CAM software, has named Ryan Jacquemin, a student at the Oliver Wolcott Technical High school in Torrington, Connecticut, the winner of its 2013-2014 Innovator of the Future (IOF) competition. His award included $1,000 for school expenses, Mastercam software and a trip to Florida to visit the Kennedy Space Center.
According to CNC Software, the contest helps introduce students to real-world manufacturing by challenging them to put a creative twist on a specific part. For the 2013-2014 competition, students designed and machined an aerospace mirror. Submissions were judged by Optimax, a company that makes optics for aerospace, defense and consumer electronics applications. The winning entry was chosen because it had been hand-polished and was the most accurate mirror compared to the original specifications.
