General Tool Co. Wins Major Defense Contract
The company will be helping build components for the Ford-class aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy, scheduled for delivery in 2022.
General Tool Co. (GTC; Cincinnati, Ohio) has been selected by General Atomics (GA; San Diego, California) to deliver $48 million in hardware for the U.S. Navy’s future aircraft carrier John F. Kennedy, the second of the navy’s Ford class of aircraft carriers. GTC is a defense and aerospace subcontract manufacturer providing welding, machining and assembly services.
This contract will include such components as motor support structures, trough covers and other associated components. This award supports GA’s full production contract for delivery of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for installation on board the ship. The carrier is scheduled for delivery in 2022.
EMALS is a complete launch system designed to replace the steam catapults currently in use on all Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. The electric-motor-based AAG system provides deceleration for aircraft for when planes land on a carrier.
