Fabtech Expo to Raise Funds for Workshops for Warriors
This is the second time that the expo has raised funds for a special cause.
Fabtech 2014 will include a charitable fundraising campaign to benefit U.S. military veterans and assist them in obtaining manufacturing jobs. The 2014 Fabtech Expo Cares campaign is raising funds to support Workshops for Warriors, a nonprofit organization based in San Diego, California, that provides manufacturing job training and certifications to military veterans. Donations will help the nonprofit expand its capacity and better meet the demand for its courses.
According to Ana Cláudia Guedes, executive vice president at Workshops for Warriors, “What we’ve found is that veterans are an excellent fit for careers in advanced manufacturing because they are self-starters by nature who are driven to succeed and trained to problem-solve. For many, the ability to work with their hands is also a selling point. By providing these veterans with industry-leading training and credentials, we are able to help them into life-sustaining careers that can rebuild American manufacturing.”
The fundraising initiative is aiming for a goal of $32,000. Exhibitors and attendees can contribute through a secure donation page on the online fundraising site CrowdRise at fabtechexpo.com/fabtechexpocares.
The Fabtech Expo Cares charity campaign was launched during the 2013 to provide aid to the city of Washington, Illinois, which had been struck by severe storms. The initial campaign exceeded its goals and raised more than $21,000 for the storm victims.
