Last month, we launched our new Web site, MMS Online, and with that launch we activated a feature called The EDM Zone. The EDM Zone groups all of our resources, databases, archives and special features related directly to electrical discharge machining and makes this material easy and quick to access.

EDM seemed a natural choice for our first zone because EDM is a very distinct segment in the spectrum of metalworking technologies. Cutting metal with electrical energy really sets it off from other processes such as milling, drilling, turning, or grinding. The technology of EDM is growing and changing. Plus EDM is attracting new first-time users, a group that is especially receptive to a convenient collection of EDM-related information.
This material includes articles appearing in past issues of Modern Machine Shop as well as other categories of EDM-related editorial content. The "Suppliers" section is a special directory of companies that make or sell EDM units, EDM supplies, and related equipment such as tooling and programming software. There is a searchable glossary of EDM terminology and a searchable database of current EDM products.
We have also set up an EDM Forum as part of this zone. The EDM Forum will provide an electronic venue for communicating with other EDMers. We'll maintain this Forum according to the needs and interests of our EDM readers, but we need more input about what you'd like to see in this section. More precisely, we'd like to know what sort of features you would use.
Clicking on the words "EDM Forum" on the EDM Zone main page will take you there. Follow the instructions for sending us a message electronically. For example, if you have questions or problems you'd like other EDMers to help you with, let us know. What issues would you like to see debated? What EDM-related concerns would you like to see addressed? Your comments and suggestions will give us a direction for developing this part of our Web site.
