Nobody is 100-percent sure, but it sure “feels” like it might be costly, especially to manufacturing companies that have 50 or more employees. It seems AMT—The Association For Manufacturing Technology concurs. In this article, AMT points out that the combination of new mandates, penalties and tax increases is expected to raise costs for a number of companies. For instance, an excise tax on the sale of any taxable medical device may force medical device producers to lay off employees and/or curb their R&D efforts. That will have a direct impact on machine shops that supply components to those companies.
