Re-Shoring Fair—May 12

OEMs once committed to offshore production continue to rethink that commitment, says the Wall Street Journal.

OEMs once committed to offshore production continue to rethink that commitment, says the Wall Street Journal. We’ve reported on the phenomenon, too. The reasons to “onshore” or “re-shore” include improving quality control while reducing lead time and inventory costs. Lately, increases in both foreign wages and shipping costs have made the case for re-shoring stronger.

On May 12, a special one-day event will provide a setting for machine shops to meet OEMs that are considering increasing their domestic production. The Re-Shoring Fair will take place in Irvine, California. The NTMA, one of the event’s sponsors, provides further information.

Have you seen manufacturing return to the U.S.? The NTMA is also looking for cases that can be used to better understand, and in some cases, publicize re-shoring. Coverage by Modern Machine Shop is possible. Send me an e-mail about your re-shoring success.
