Micro-scale milling is, in many ways, a different process from milling at conventional sizes. The parameters and expectations of conventional machining do not simply scale down. As a result, technology is tailored to micromachining. We have reported in the past on software tailored to micromachining—such as this Cimatron example—as well as machine tools addressing the same challenge, such as this machine from Microlution. Now, the two elements just mentioned have come together. Cimatron has developed postprocessors for the unusual Microlution machine, and Microlution will offer the CAD/CAM software to its customers.
