With attendee preregistration ahead of expectations, the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) opened this morning at Chicago's McCormick Place. Seemingly reflecting the optimistic mood prevailing among exhibitors and attendees, the IMTS hot air balloon shone brightly in front of the south entrance to the Grand Concourse. This iconic symbol of the show is presented by AMT--The Association for Manufacturning Technology. AMT, show sponsor, reports that pre-show registration reached 72,447, only a few percentage points below 2008 figures, the most recent previous show. According to show officials, as many as 85,000 manufacturing professionals are expected to attend the six-day show. IMTS features more than 1,700 exhibitors.
