A common theme is that CNC machining complements the craftsmanship
that is the essence of fine musical instruments.

The Mastercam Notes Winter 2010 customer newsletter from CNC Software Inc. includes a piece about how Bob Taylor, co-founder of Taylor Guitars, learned to use Mastercam CAD/CAM software when he acquired his first CNC mill to make guitar components. Guitar production is still the work of skilled craftsmen there, but automation has helped the company grow without losing its personal touch.

In fact, customers can “design” their own guitar as part of the company’s Build to Order option. That’s how a special wedding gift from Meghan Summers to her fiancé was prepared. Meghan is the daughter of CNC Software founder, Mark Summers, who plays guitar and is a fan of Taylor products.
