View MoreElectrical discharge sawing uses spark-erosion technology to quickly create blanks from exotic alloys.
In my last blog entry, I mention adiabatic cutting (i.e. high-velocity impact cutting) as an alternative for creating workpiece blanks. Electrical discharge sawing is another atypical blanking process I discovered. EDS can quickly create blanks from titanium, nickel, metal composites and other conductive materials regardless of their hardness. The equipment, which is manufactured by India’s Electronica Machine Tools, is said to be as much as 70 percent faster than wire EDM.
